8th grade ELA students enjoyed an Ag in the Classroom fun food activity while reading Esperanza Rising.

Baby Diaper Secret is the experiment 8th grade students are completing this week. They are testing the powder inside, which is a polymer, to see how much liquid a diaper will hold.

5th grade band and JH band and chorus students had a wonderful Christmas concert last night! Thank you for sharing your musical talents with all of us!

The high school band and chorus students had a wonderful Christmas concert on Sunday. The audience got to hear beautiful Christmas songs by the chorus, The Village Jazz Choir, Jazz Band, and the concert band.

Veronica Bower and Clayton Shidler were celebrated today for being the November Character Kids of the Month! Veronica and Clayton were nominated for showing outstanding character at OES!! Way to go!

Reminder-

Oblong FBLA traveled to Newton on Saturday, November 18th to help the American Legion Jasper Post 20 sort and fold over 500 flags that were displayed during last weekend's Veteran's Day program. They had a blast serving those who have served our country.

The 8th Grade Girls Basketball team won their first round game in Regionals today 34-14! Way to go ladies! 💙🏀💛

Congratulations to Mason Correll for being named FBLA's Member of the Month for the month of September. Mason joined FBLA a little late and stepped right in to take over a leadership role that needed filled. He worked hard this past month speaking with area businesses and selling ad space for an upcoming fundraiser. He has been more than willing to work on this project during his own personal time after school too. Great job Mason!

Congratulations to Ethan Dhom, Ava Manuel and Kyndal Roy! These OHS students have been designated as Illinois State Scholars! The Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) presents this prestigious recognition of academic achievement to exceptional Illinois high school students annually. To be named an Illinois State Scholar is an outstanding accomplishment. We are so proud of these students!

On November 4 - 5, five members of the Oblong High School Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and their adviser, Mrs.Pfeifer, attended the Third Annual Illinois Fall Retreat in Collinsville, Illinois. A total of 233 members and advisers from 15 Illinois chapters were in attendance. Kent Julian kicked off the retreat with an energetic keynote. Members attended workshops focused on leadership styles, chapter planning, and the power of mindset. The Illinois FBLA Collegiate officers led a workshop on planning events with a purpose. Members were also able to interact with local business professionals in a round-table event highlighting different industries. In addition, members enjoyed a social event held at a local amusement center.
