Greetings Panthers!

Welcome to Oblong High School.  I would like to take this opportunity to invite our incoming freshmen and new students to Freshmen Orientation on Monday, August 17th, from 1:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m. in the high school media center.  As a parent or guardian, you may wonder why this orientation is in the afternoon and whether or not parents need to be there.  Having this orientation in the afternoon will give our entire staff the opportunity to better serve your student, and parents do not need to attend.  While parental involvement is absolutely important and critical for high school success, this orientation is designed for teachers and students to interact more personally and to begin to develop relationships.  Along with this, we will discuss procedures students need to know including finding their lockers, walking through their schedules, and locating their classrooms.

Again this year, a main focus at OHS will be to practice an equation called E+R=O.  After Freshmen Orientation, I encourage you to discuss this equation with your child and have him or her explain the basics of it.  Over the past few years, I have become increasingly sure that servant leadership is the way to motivate and challenge high school students.  My goal is to serve your child by not only holding them accountable, but by letting them know how important they are and how much their school cares about them.  We look forward to seeing them on August 17th.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at 618-592-4235 (school), 618-354-1463 (cell), or ajulian@oblongschools.net.

Sincerely,

Andy Julian
