            The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Oblong Community Unit School District #4 was held on August 17, 2009 in the Elementary Library.  The meeting was called to order at 8:00 p.m. by President Poehler with the following members physically present: Bailey, Pinkston, Sparks, Higgins, Musgrave, Pusey, and Poehler.

 

Recognition & Comments - none 

 

            Motion by Bailey and seconded by Pusey to adopt consent agenda items as presented. Roll call vote:  Bailey - yea, Pinkston - yea, Sparks - yea,  Higgins - yea,  Musgrave - yea, Pusey – yea, Poehler – yea.  Motion carried.  Consent Agenda items:  To approve regular and closed session minutes of July, 2009; financial report of July, 2009; payment of August 2009 board bills; and approve Jeff Patchett as non-discrimination coordinator.

 

            Motion by Higgins and seconded by Musgrave to authorize the superintendent to purchase a used bus at a cost not to exceed $45,000.  Roll call vote:  Bailey – yea, Pinkston – yea, Sparks – yea, Higgins – yea, Musgrave – yea, Pusey – yea, Poehler – yea.  Motion carried.

 

            Motion by Pusey and seconded by Bailey to approve Policies: 7:18, 7:31, 7:19.

Roll call vote:  Bailey – yea, Pinkston – yea, Sparks – yea, Higgins – yea, Musgrave – yea, Pusey – yea, Poehler – yea.  Motion carried.

 

            Motion by Bailey and seconded by Pinkston to approve the tentative 2009-2010 budget and set the hearing date for September 21, 2009.  Roll call vote: Bailey - yea, Pinkston - yea, Sparks – yea, Higgins – yea,  Musgrave – yea, Pusey – yea, Poehler –yea.  Motion carried.

 

            Motion by Pinkston and seconded by Sparks to approve Music Booster request to hold the Spooktacular Band Field Competition on Saturday, October 31, 2009 as presented..  Roll call vote:  Bailey - yea, Pinkston - yea, Sparks – yea, Higgins – yea,  Musgrave – yea, Pusey – yea, Poehler - yea.  Motion carried.

 

            Motion by Sparks and seconded by Poehler to approve FFA request to attend the Farm Progress Show in Decatur on September 2, 2009.  Roll call vote:   Bailey - yea, Pinkston - yea, Sparks – yea, Higgins – yea,  Musgrave – yea, Pusey – yea, Poehler  - yea.  Motion carried.

 

            Motion by Pusey and seconded by Bailey to have closed campus at the Elementary & Junior High School for the 2009-2010 school year because of possible safety issues due to construction on Route 33.  Roll call vote: Bailey - yea, Pinkston - yea, Sparks – yea, Higgins – yea,  Musgrave – yea, Pusey – yea, Poehler – yea.  Motion carried.

 

            Motion by Sparks and seconded by Poehler to go into closed session at 8:47 PM to consider information regarding appointment, employment, or dismissal of an employee. Roll call vote: Bailey - yea, Pinkston - yea, Sparks – yea, Higgins – yea,  Musgrave – yea, Pusey – yea, Poehler - yea.  Motion carried.

 

            Motion by Poehler and seconded by Sparks to return to open session at

9:13 PM.  Roll call vote: Bailey - yea, Pinkston - yea, Sparks – yea, Higgins – yea,  Musgrave – yea, Pusey – yea, Poehler – yea.  Motion carried.

 

Motion by Musgrave and seconded by Pusey to approve closed session minutes of 8/17/09.   Roll call vote:   Bailey - yea, Pinkston - yea, Sparks – yea, Higgins – yea,  Musgrave – yea, Pusey – yea, Poehler - yea.  Motion carried. 

 

Motion by Poehler and seconded by Bailey to hire Allen Price as Interim Grade School Principal for the 2009-2010 school year.  Roll call vote:  Bailey – yea, Pinkston – yea, Sparks – yea, Higgins – yea, Musgrave – yea, Pusey – yea, Poehler – yea.  Motion carried.

 

Motion by Sparks and seconded by Higgins to hire Tonia Fitz as Grade School Computer Lab Aide.   Roll call vote:   Bailey - yea, Pinkston - yea, Sparks – yea,

Higgins – yea,  Musgrave – yea, Pusey – yea, Poehler - yea.  Motion carried.

 

Motion by Musgrave and seconded by Bailey to accept Vick AikmanÕs resignation as Volunteer High School Basketball Coach. Roll call vote: Bailey - yea, Pinkston - yea, Sparks – yea, Higgins – yea,  Musgrave – yea, Pusey – yea, Poehler – yea.  Motion carried.

 

            Motion by Pinkston and seconded by Pusey to hire Whitney Hoke as Junior High Assistant Cheerleading Coach.  Roll call vote:   Bailey - yea, Pinkston - yea, Sparks – yea, Higgins – yea,  Musgrave – yea, Pusey – yea, Poehler - yea.  Motion carried.

 

            Motion by Sparks and seconded by Higgins to accept Dave HastyÕs resignation as Head High School Baseball Coach. Roll call vote:  Bailey - yea, Pinkston - yea, Sparks – yea, Higgins – yea,  Musgrave – yea, Pusey – yea, Poehler - yea.  Motion carried.

 

            Motion by Sparks and seconded by Bailey to authorize the superintendent to hire a High School Personal Aide.   Roll call vote: Bailey - yea, Pinkston - yea, Sparks – yea, Higgins – yea,  Musgrave – yea, Pusey – yea, Poehler - yea.  Motion carried.

 

            Motion by Poehler and seconded by Pinkston to rehire Darnell Schalasky as Birth to Three Co-ordinator.  Roll call vote:  Bailey – yea, Pinkston – yea, Sparks – yea, Higgins – yea, Musgrave – yea, Pusey – yea, Poehler – yea.  Motion carried.
