Prior to the regular meeting of the Board of Education of Oblong Community Unit School District #4 a public hearing was held for the purpose of discussion concerning a five-year waiver/modification to be in attendance on Lincoln’s birthday. 

 

            The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Oblong Community Unit School District #4 was held on July 21, 2008 in the Elementary Library.  The meeting was called to order at 8:00 p.m. by President Poehler with the following physically present:  Meese, Cross, Harris, Pinkston, Bailey, Sparks, and Poehler.

           

Recognition & Comments

 

            Motion by Harris and seconded by Pinkston to adopt consent agenda items as presented. Roll call vote: Meese - yea, Cross- yea, Harris - yea, Pinkston - yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks - yea, Poehler - yea.  Consent Agenda items:  To approve regular, and closed session minutes of June, 2008; financial report of June, 2008; and payment of July, 2008 board bills; authorize Fritz Wheeler to be in charge of the District in the absence of the Superintendent.  Motion carried.

 

            Motion by Sparks and seconded by Bailey to approve Hillyard, Inc. to maintain and re-coat the Grade School and High School Gym floors for a cost of $3,332.58.  Roll call vote: Meese - yea, Cross- yea, Harris - yea, Pinkston - yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks - yea, Poehler - yea.  Motion carried.

 

            Motion by Poehler and seconded by Sparks to approve revised policies 2:260 and 7:20.  Roll call vote: Meese - yea, Cross – yea, Harris - yea, Pinkston - yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks - yea, Poehler - yea.  Motion carried.

 

            Motion by Harris and seconded by Bailey to renew a five-year waiver/modification to be in attendance on Lincoln’s birthday.  Roll call vote:  Meese – yea, Cross – yea, Harris – yea, Pinkston – yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks – yea, Poehler – yea.  Motion carried.

 

Motion by Meese and seconded by Sparks to approve bids for diesel fuel from Leohr Oil, milk from Prairie Farms, bakery from Interstate Brands, and tires from Best One of Robinson for the 2008-2009 school year.  Roll call vote:  Roll call vote: Meese - yea, Cross – yea, Harris - yea, Pinkston - yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks - yea, Poehler - yea.   Motion carried.

 

            Motion by Bailey and seconded by Pinkston to approve District fees, registration fees, admission prices, breakfast and lunch prices as presented. Roll call vote:  Meese - yea, Cross – yea, Harris - yea, Pinkston - yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks - yea, Poehler - yea.  Motion carried. 

 

 

            Motion by Meese and seconded by Harris to approve a Driver’s Education fee of $30.00 to begin 2008-2009 school year.  Roll call vote:  Meese – yea, Cross – yea, Harris – yea, Pinkston – yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks – yea, Poehler – yea.  Motion carried.

 

            Motion by Poehler and seconded by Bailey to approve the High School and Grade School Student Handbooks and Administrative Guidelines for Employees for the 2008-2009 school year.  Roll call vote:  Meese - yea, Cross – yea, Harris - yea, Pinkston - yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks - yea, Poehler - yea.   Motion carried.

 

            Motion by Sparks and seconded by Pinkston to approve an agreement with Terry Wiseman Pontiac-Buick-GMC Trucks, to provide the Driver’s Education car for the 2008-2009 school year as presented.  Roll call vote: Meese - yea, Cross – yea, Harris - yea, Pinkston - yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks - yea, Poehler - yea.  Motion carried. 

 

Motion by Poehler and seconded by Harris to open all the closed session minutes from January 2008 through June 2008. Roll call vote: Meese - yea, Cross – yea, Harris - yea, Pinkston - yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks - yea, Poehler - yea.  Motion carried.

 

            Motion by Sparks and seconded by Bailey to go into closed session at 8:54 PM to consider information regarding appointment, employment, or dismissal of an employee, and negotiations. Roll call vote: Meese - yea, Cross – yea, Harris - yea, Pinkston - yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks - yea, Poehler - yea.  Motion carried.

 

            Motion by Bailey and seconded by Harris to return to open session at 9:46 PM.   Roll call vote:   Meese - yea, Cross – yea, Harris - yea, Pinkston - yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks - yea,

Poehler - yea.  Motion carried.

 

Motion by Sparks and seconded by Pinkston to approve closed session minutes of 7/21/08. Roll call vote: Meese - yea, Harris - yea, Pinkston - yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks - yea, Poehler - yea.   Motion carried.

 

            Motion by Poehler and seconded by Cross to accept James Dunlaps’ resignation as High School Math Teacher.  Roll call vote: Meese - yea, Cross – yea, Harris - yea, Pinkston - yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks - yea, Poehler - yea.   Motion carried.

 

            Motion by Pinkston and seconded by Bailey to accept Jane Sevackos’ resignation as Sign Interpreter.  Roll call vote: Meese - yea, Cross – yea, Harris - yea, Pinkston - yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks - yea, Poehler - yea.  Motion carried.

 

            Motion by Sparks and seconded by Meese to hire Pam McIntosh as High School Math Teacher.  Roll call vote: Meese - yea, Cross – yea, Harris - yea, Pinkston - yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks - yea, Poehler - yea.  Motion carried. 

 

            Motion by Bailey and seconded by Pinkston to hire Elizabeth Johnson as Music Teacher and Junior High and High School Chorus Instructor.  Roll call vote:  Meese - yea, Cross – yea, Harris - yea, Pinkston - yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks - yea, Poehler - yea.  Motion carried.

 

            Motion by Cross and seconded by Meese to hire Bobbi Ireland as Pre-K Teacher for the 2008-2009 school year.   Roll call vote: Meese - yea,  Cross – yea, Harris - yea, Pinkston - yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks - yea, Poehler - yea.  Motion carried.     

 

            Motion by Sparks and seconded by Poehler to approve Galen Slover as volunteer assistant golf coach.  Roll call vote: Meese - yea, Cross – yea, Harris - yea, Pinkston - yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks - yea, Poehler - yea.  Motion carried. 

 

            Motion by Bailey and seconded by Harris to approve Troy Jacobs as volunteer assistant Junior High Baseball Coach.  Roll call vote: Meese - yea,  Cross – yea, Harris - yea, Pinkston - yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks - yea, Poehler - yea.  Motion carried.

 

Motion by Poehler and seconded by Pinkston to approve the coaching and class sponsors for the 2008-2009 school year as presented.  Roll call vote:  Meese - yea,  Cross – yea, Harris - yea, Pinkston - yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks - yea, Poehler - yea.   Motion carried.
