            The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Oblong Community Unit School District #4 was held on May 21, 2007 in the Elementary Library.  The meeting was called to order at 8:00 p.m. by President Poehler with the following physically present:  Meese, Cross, Harris, Pinkston, Bailey, Sparks, and Poehler.
           
            Recognition & Comments – Eighteen OES students were recognized through the Character Counts Program for their outstanding character dealing with fairness.

            Motion by Harris and seconded by Bailey to adopt consent agenda items as presented.  Roll call vote: Meese – yea, Cross – yea, Harris – yea, Pinkston – yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks – yea, Poehler – yea. Motion carried. Consent Agenda items:  To approve regular and closed session minutes of April 16, 2007; financial report of April 2007; payment of May 2007 board bills; authorize Bookkeeper and Superintendent to prepare 2007-2008 budget.  Motion carried.

Motion by Sparks and seconded by Pinkston to approve renewal of the Student Accident Insurance for the 2007-2008 school year with Crawford County Insurance.  Roll call vote: Meese – yea, Cross – yea, Harris – yea, Pinkston – yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks – yea, Poehler – yea.  Motion carried.

            Motion by Meese  and seconded by Cross to approve summer repairs and maintenance proposals for the High School and Grade School June thru August 2007 as presented.  Roll call vote: Meese – yea, Cross – yea, Harris – yea, Pinkston – yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks – yea, Poehler – yea.  Motion carried. 

            Motion by Pinkston and seconded by Sparks to approve Leadership 2007.  Roll call vote:  Meese – yea, Cross – yea, Harris – yea, Pinkston – yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks – yea, Poehler – yea.  Motion carried.

            Motion by Harris and seconded by Bailey to approve the 2006-2007 amended school calendar.  Roll call vote:  Meese – yea, Cross – yea, Harris – yea, Pinkston – yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks – yea, Poehler – yea.  Motion carried.

            Motion by Bailey and seconded by Cross to approve Jr. High Cheerleaders request to attend cheerleading camp at EIU in Charleston, IL on July 10-13, 2007.  Roll call vote:  Meese – yea, Cross – yea, Harris – yea, Pinkston – yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks – yea, Poehler – yea.  Motion carried.

            Motion by Cross and seconded by Sparks to approve FFA officers  request to attend the Illinois FFA Convention in Springfield June 12-14, 2007, with $300 coming from the FFA departmental budget.  Roll call vote: Meese – yea, Cross – yea, Harris – yea, Pinkston – yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks – yea, Poehler – yea.  Motion carried.

            Motion by Poehler and seconded by Bailey to approve FFA request to go to Holiday World on May 31, 2007.  Roll call vote: Meese – yea, Cross – yea, Harris – yea, Pinkston – yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks – yea, Poehler – yea.  Motion carried.

            Motion by Pinkston and seconded by Meese to approve Band and Chorus request to take the High School Senior Class Band and Chorus members to St. Louis, MO on May 30, 2007.  Roll call vote: Meese – yea, Cross – yea, Harris – yea, Pinkston – yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks – yea, Poehler – yea.  Motion carried.

Motion by Harris and seconded by Cross to go into closed session at 8:25 PM to consider information regarding appointment, employment, or dismissal of an employee, and negotiations.  Roll call vote: Meese – yea, Cross – yea, Harris – yea, Pinkston – yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks – yea, Poehler – yea.  Motion carried.

Motion by Cross and seconded by Pinkston to return to open session at 9:01 PM.  Roll call vote:  Meese – yea, Cross – yea, Harris – yea, Pinkston – yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks – yea, Poehler – yea.  Motion carried.

Motion by Sparks and seconded by Pinkston to approve closed session minutes of 5/21/07. Roll call vote: Meese – yea, Cross – yea, Harris – yea, Pinkston – yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks – yea, Poehler – yea.  Motion carried.

            Motion by Poehler and seconded by Pinkston to accept Andrea Rich’s resignation as Head Jr. High Girls Basketball Coach and Head Jr. High Softball Coach.    Roll call vote:  Meese – yea, Cross – yea, Harris – yea, Pinkston – yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks – yea, Poehler – yea.  Motion carried.

            Motion by Cross and seconded by Bailey to accept Linda Tharp’s resignation as Special Education Coordinator.  Roll call vote: Meese – yea, Cross – yea, Harris – yea, Pinkston – yea, Bailey – yea, Sparks – yea, Poehler – yea.  Motion carried.

            Motion by Meese and seconded by Sparks to accept Kelly Iffert’s resignation as grade school sign interpreter.  Roll call vote:  Meese – yea, Cross – yea, Harris – yea, Pinkston – yea, Bailey – yes, Sparks – yea, Poehler – yea.  Motion carried.
